Sub-Zero asks owners to allow 24 hours for a unit to reach the temperature set. A warm, empty cabinet is the slowest start it ever makes, but once that day has passed, something is holding it back.
Some causes are simple: a section still disabled, a unit in showroom mode, which on Classic models shows 38° and 0° without cooling, or a condenser coated with dust gathered while it stood idle.
Others began while it was off. A fan that stuck or a sealed-system fault that only showed itself on restart looks the same from the front. Sub-Zero adds that a unit above 48°F while set at 38 is unlikely to recover from a condenser cleaning.

Settings and sight checks before the second day ends
Start at the control panel, then look through the grille; there is nothing to open.
- Confirm the unit and each section are on
POWER at the control panel turns a Classic unit on and off; double dashes on the display mean a section is still disabled.
- Read the set points
Sub-Zero recommends 38°F for the refrigerator, and Classic controls leave the factory set to 38°F and 0°F.
- Hold the groceries back
Load it once it is cold. Warm food raises the temperature for several hours and blurs what the unit is doing on its own.
